Rock Testing Equipment

Rock mechanics is an important field of geotechnical engineering as it is the theoretical and applied science concerning the physical behaviour of rocks and rock masses.

We offer an extensive range of modern laboratory solutions for classification, strength and durability determinations according to international standards suitable for a wide range of rock types.
In addition, CONTROLS offers a full range of precise specimen preparation equipment (coring, cutting and grinding machines) in order to ensure a high-quality specimens.

Rock Specimen Preparation

High quality specimens are essential for precise and accurate uniaxial and triaxial testing results.

A complete range of precise specimen preparation equipment (coring, cutting and grinding machines) necessary to achieve the best possible specimens you need being tested are available.

Classification test

A wide range of apparatus for a preliminary rock classification, in terms of visual identification, Strength Index, Rebound Index are available.

Rock permeability, evaluated as a rock classification parameter, can be performed using a Hoek cell and relative accessories.

Behaviour of joints

Rock joints originate from geological failures developing when a break in the rock mass continuity along with no visible displacement has occurred.

These discontinuities are characterized by a lower mechanical strength than the original rock matrix and require the following detailed test investigations:

Shear strength of the joint - Rock shear box apparatus

Tilt test apparatus

Surface roughness of the joint - Profilometer (Barton comb)

Abrasion and Durability test

This range of products cover the determination of natural stone and rocks abrasion and durability.

In particular, the resistance to the abrasion can be assessed using both the Abrasion testing machine and Bohme Abrasion Wheel machine while the Slake Durability Apparatus is used to evaluate the deterioration of material subjected to water immersion.

Triaxial Systems

Rock mechanics is an important field of geotechnical engineering as it is the theoretical and applied science concerning the physical behavior of rocks and rock masses.

We offer an extensive range of modern laboratory solutions for strengthstiffness and durability determinations according to international standards suitable for a wide range of rock types.

When a rock sample is subjected to defined stress conditions in the laboratory, the stress-strain diagram can also show non-linear relations for very small strains, hysteresis, anisotropy, etc.
All these phenomena can be mathematically described and used for mechanical design simulations.
