New Torshear EmS fully automatic ring shear testing machine by Wykeham Farrance

Wykeham Farrance, the soil mechanics division of CONTROLS Group is pleased to launch a new
Torshear EmS, a versatile and fully automatic ring shear testing that will increase the testing capabilities
of research and commercial laboratories.
Torshear EmS provides a procedure for performing a torsional ring shear test under a drained condition to determine the fully softened shear strength and nonlinear strength envelope of cohesive soils. This is used to evaluate the stability of slopes that do not have a pre-existing shear surface.

  • Environmentally friendly, low-maintenance and quiet using innovative Electromechanical Servoactuation (EmS) technology.
  • Lightweight and compact, Torshear EmS can be placed on a standard bench, maximizing use of space in your laboratory.
  • Modular and expandable, up to six units with optional dedicated software.

    • Maximum vertical stress 1,200 kPa
    • Maximum shear stress 1,000 kPa
    • Infinite variable speed from 0.00001 to 1000°/min, with pre-shearing stage selectable and adjustable number of cycles of shearing.
  • Easy to clean and maintain. Top-quality techno-polymeric materials offer excellent resistance to corrosion, wear and tear and to chemicals often mixed with soil specimens.
