General description
Introduction
This machine has been designed for use, in the field or laboratory to perform tension tests on steel rebars up to 26 mm dia. and compression tests on cylindrical concrete specimens up to dia. 160x320 mm and cubes up to 150 mm, using the appropriate accessories. 
The system includes the AUTOMAX UTM Control Console which can automatically control up to two testing frames (ex­pandable to four, see accessories) resulting in an extremely practical and convenient solution.

Frame
The frame consists of a very rigid structure with double acting cylinder assembly.
It includes tensile grips and it is fitted with a 150 mm travel high precision displacement transducer allow­ing test execution under cross­head separation control. See Technical Specifications.

The machine is supplied complete with a set of tensile holders, 4 wedge grips for flats up to 13 mm thickness, 4  wedge grips for rounds up to 26 mm dia. and 2 sets of grip liners 4 and 8 mm thick.

Spherical seat and compression platens for concrete specimens are not included and have to be ordered separately (see Accessories).

AUTOMAX UTM Power and Control Console
AUTOMAX UTM automatically performs steel tensile testing, compression, flex­ure, splitting tests, Elastic Modu­lus and Poisson's ratio determi­nation on concrete and cement specimens when connected to a suitable testing frame with the relevant accessories.
The console consists of an ergo­nomic cabinet which housing the hydraulic system, the power sup­ply, the electronics and the PC. PC and software enable remote con­trol of the complete system (See Technical Specifications).

Software
The AUTOMAX UTM is supplied complete with RTM (Real Time Management) user interface environment allowing:
  • Remote control of the complete system for automatic test execution: rapid platen approach, zeroing, test execution according to the selected test type, calculation of results, graphical and numerical management of results 
  • Active frame selection via software 
  • Automatic load measurement verification procedure via software by connecting our digital tester (model 82-P0801/E or 82-P0804/E) with a strain gauged calibration cell to the PC allowing automatic data acquisition and print-out of traceable calibration certificates
  • Storage of single and multiple tests
  • Printing of customized test reports both for single and multiple tests
  • Real time and deferred management of tests data and results, either in numeric and in graphic format 
  • Real sampling rate: 100 per second
  • Language settings, with selection between English, Italian, French, Spanish and "My language". This last option allows the operator to enter a another language different to the pre-defined ones (only Latin characters).

Several software packages, all running under RTM enviroment, have been specifically developed to meet the main International Standards. The following are available in the AUTOMAX UTM system:
  • UTS software (included), specifically designed for tensile testing under load/stress control and crosshead separation control (by using the displacement transducer supplied with the machine), allowing:
    • simultaneous display of: stress/ strain, stress/time; stress/%; strain/time and stress/elongation when extensometer is adopted (through coaxial extensometer series or universal extensometer), with possibility to display multi diagrams
    • elaboration of tension test results: ReH, ReL or Rp, final elongation, etc.in conformity to EN ISO 6892-1 (method B) and EN 15630-1 (for steel rebars)
  • DATAMANAGER software (included) for compression, flexure and indirect tensi­le test on concrete, cement specimens and other construction materials allowing:
    • Real time monitoring of test data and stress/time graph
    • Automatic failure load detection and storage
    • Cement testing to EN 196-1 guided test procedure
    • Saving of batch file with automatic calculation of avarage and standard deviation
  • E-MODULE software (optional, see Upgrading Options) for Poisson ratio and Elastic Modulus determination allowing:
    • Free unlimited programmable load/stress cycles to fulfill any kind of test procedure
    • Real time monitoring of test data, stress/time, stress/axial strain, stress/lateral strain graphs
    • Automatic verification of sample centering and sensors functionality, as per Standard requirements
    • Automatic calculation of Initial and Final secant Elastic Modulus values

Distance pieces
Made of steel, these pieces are used to reduce the vertical clearance of the compression machine to a height that is appropriate for the size of the specimen and considering that, in general, the maximum piston travel is 150mm.
