General description
General description
The PAVELAB 50 Pave Analyzer represents the second generation of automatic closed loop bitumen and binder extractor developed by PAVELAB® SYSTEMS.  This new machine has been provided with key features that makes it a unique system currently available in the international market.
The Pavelab50 Pave Analyzer allows the complete analysis of an asphalt sample. It is used either to determinate the binder content or to recover, using a rotary evaporator, a representative bitumen sample used to perform other tests such as penetration, softening point, etc.
Furthermore aggregates, including filler, are also separated, not disturbed by high temperatures and available for sample grading.


The asphalt sample (max. 3.5 kg) is introduced in a screening drum lined with 0.063, 0.075 or 0.090 mm opening woven cloth and then placed inside a screening drum in the washing chamber. Bitumen and filler are separated from the sample by washing with solvent and ultrasonic motion. The mixture filler/bitumen/solvent is centrifuged and the filler is separated. The aggregates and filler are dried by force air circulation and the residue of solvent recovered by condensation.
The remaining solution bitumen/solvent  is then distilled and separated in two different tanks. Part of the solution bitumen/solvent can be drained before distillation and connected to a rotary evaporator  to recover a bitumen sample for other tests.
The clean distilled solvent is recycled for other extractions.
The machine stops immediately in case of door/cover openings, lack of water, electric motor malfunctions, etc. The door is locked when the test is running. Type of trouble is evidenced on the control panel display.
The analyzer shall be connected to a suitable water cooling unit to feed the three different cooling coils of the apparatus.
The laboratory can be completely safe from solvent vapours by filling the solvent in the machine with the solvent filling device (see Accessories).

The machine is composed by the following components:
  • 7” touch screen swinging panel displays the operating stage and recorded data. Machine software enable the test parameters set up;
  • Distiller cover top can be upgraded with a balance in order to weight the sample at the end of each stage. Weight data are recorded by the software and used for automatic result calculations (for 75-PV50A25, 75-PV50A26);
  • The condenser cleaning operations are facilitated by an hinged opening of the lid;
  • Level indicators are made of a high resistance material in order to be compatible with a extensive range of solvents.
  • Drum housing in the stainless steel washing chamber fitted with ultrasonic equipment, heating system, driving device for the rotation
  • Centrifuge and cup housing suitable for 120 mm dia. cup. Safety switch integrated;
  • Double chamber recovery/distillation unit: The distillation chamber comprehends base and upper heater providing solvent recovery up to approx. 30 l/h, and cooling coils above the chamber, incorporated in the cover. Both chambers are fitted with drain valves.
  • Condenser: stainless steel tank complete with cooling coil for condensation of solvent vapor during the drying operation
  • A fast connection for rotary evaporator flask, for bitumen solution collection, is available as accessory.

Solvent filling device
